Komend najaar brengt Stichting Colores de Mexico samen met een groep jonge en talentvolle Mexicaanse en Nederlandse musici een bijzonder muzikaal programma naar Den Haag. Onder de titel Sounds of Mexico geven zij van september tot december in de Haagse Kunstkring een serie van vier concerten, samengesteld uit muziek van Mexicaanse en Nederlandse componisten uit de 20e en 21ste eeuw. Na afloop van ieder concert is een receptie met Mexicaanse hapjes.

De vier concerten hebben elk een thema met een verschillende combinatie van instrumenten, die de verschillende kanten van de Mexicaanse cultuur laten zien.

• Het eerste concert, 17 september om 20.15 uur, vormt een portret van de poëzie van de bekende dichter en Nobelprijswinnaar Octavio Paz in de vorm van op zijn werk geïnspireerde muziek.
• Het tweede concert, 15 oktober om 20.15 uur, is een hommage aan Manuel M. Ponce, een van de toonaangevende vertegenwoordigers van de Mexicaanse klassieke muziek.
• Het derde concert, 12 november om 20.15 uur, is een exposé van de Mexicaanse en Nederlandse nieuwe klassieke muziek, waaruit niet alleen de verscheidenheid blijkt van de hedendaagse muziektaal maar ook de gemeenschappelijkheid van de muziek uit de twee landen.
• Het vierde concert, 10 december om 20.15 uur, ook met muziek uit Mexico en Nederland, biedt een dynamisch programma met gitaar en percussie.

De concerten worden uitgevoerd door jonge en talentvolle musici uit Mexico en Nederland onder wie Carina Vinke, Jonas Skielboe, Jaike Bakker, Juan Zurutuza en Santiago Lascurain.

Deze serie is tot stand gekomen dankzij de steun van Gemeente Den Haag, het Prins Bernhard Cultuur Fonds en SNS Reaal Fonds.

Stichting Colores de Mexico and a group of young, talented musicians bring to The Hague a very special concert series for the next Fall season: Sounds of Mexico–Nederland 2010. It is a series of four concerts of Mexican classical music that shows yet another beautiful, although less known, side of Mexican culture. It takes place in the Haagse Kunstkring from September to December –one concert per month– with different instrumental combinations that include guitar, voice, piano, harp and percussion. After each concert, a reception with Mexican hapjes will follow.

• The opening concert “The poet and the Lyre” takes place on September 18th at 20.15. In this concert you will hear music inspired on texts of Mexican Poet Octavio Paz, Nobel prize winner for literature in 1990. The words, accompanied with guitar, will be sung by Carina Vinke, one of The Netherland’s most prominent young mezzo-sopranos.
• The second concert will take place on October 15th at 20.15. It is a homage to the music of Manuel M. Ponce, one of the most prominent Mexican composers of the early 20th century.
• The third concert, on November 12th at 20.15, exposes the new classical music of Mexico and The Netherlands, where the musical languages of both countries come into play: at some points they diverge, at others they intersect.
• The last concert, on December 19th at 20.15, is a dynamic program with guitar and percussion which also includes music from Mexico and The Netherlands.

The concerts are performed by young, talented performers from Mexico and The Netherlands such as Carina Vinke, Jonas Skielboe, Jaike Bakker, Juan Zurutuza and Santiago Lascurain.
